Nature Walks
in the Peak District & Derbyshire
Our Nature Walks provide a wonderful opportunity to take a gentle stroll in the beautiful Peak District or Derbyshire countryside of 3 or 4 miles with a friendly, professional guide to enjoy the scenery and to learn more about our natural heritage. They are ideal for families, groups, couples, friends or individuals.
Nature Walks vary throughout the seasons and may focus on learning about wild flowers, animals, geology, conservation or local history. In the spring for example, some of the dales are filled with rare wild flowers such as early purple orchids, mountain pansies, cowslips, meadow saxifrage etc, and walks at that time of year involve finding and identifying different types of flowers. During the winter months, it is a good time to study the rock formations on the dramatic Peak District gritstone edges and learn a little about the geology of the areas, as well as taking an interest in some of the lichens that grow on the rocks. What is more, you will have the opportunity to learn about how you can minimise your impact on fragile natural environments whilst you are enjoying walking through them.
You will be in a small group of no more than 12 participants, and the walk will last around 2 hours, sometimes up to 2 1/2 hours.
For most of our Nature Walks, you will need to be fit enough to walk up to 4 miles, sometimes uphill, and you will need to be able to climb over stiles. We are however able to make selected Nature Walks accessible to people with with physical and sonsory access needs upon upon request. Please see our
Access Statment and
contact us to discuss your requirements.
We walk in all weather conditions unless it is considered unsafe to do so. To enjoy your walk in comfort and safety it is important that you wear walking boots or walking shoes that provide good grip on slippery surfaces. Trainers are not suitable, particularly through the winter months. Young people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Dogs by prior agreement with us only please.
Gift vouchers are available for our guided Nature Walks. They make an ideal present.
