Trek Training Challenge Walks
Hill walking in the Peak District for fitness
We have a regular programme of challenging trek training walks in the Peak District which are popular with those preparing for overseas treks up mountains such as Kilimanjaro, the High Atlas Mountains, the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, and the Himalayas. They are also useful for those training for challenging mountain treks in the UK such as the Three Peaks Challenge.
Most tour operators organising overseas mountain walking holidays and charity challenge treks recommend hill walking as being one of the most effective methods of preparing your body for the requirement to sustain several consecutive days of uphill climbs experienced during the ascent of mountains such as Kilimanjaro.
Peak Walking Adventures are not able to advise you on fitness programme, training, or medical issues - you should seek professional advice on this. We can however provide you with a guide to lead you on some of the most challenging hill walks in the Peak District, which could form a valuable part of your own personal training plan for that walking holiday or charity challenge trek abroad.
The Peak District has the advantage of being only a short journey from most parts of England and is easily accessible by public transport. Booking your trek training walk is easy!

Examples of some of the trek training challenge walks that we have recently provided are as follows:
From the Peakland village of Castleton, we cross the 'Great Ridge' into the Vale of Edale, then ascend again onto the southern edge of Kinder Scout to marvel at its facinating gritstone rock formations. We decend back into the Vale of Edale via Grindslow Knoll before our final ascent of the day over Rushup Edge and Mam Tor. A scenic walk of about 13 miles/21km with approx 950 metres of ascent spread out throughout the day.
A double crossing of Kinder Scout, the highest hill in the Peak District, famous for its distinctive gritstone edges and panoramic views. Approach it from two sides, and explore the central Kinder plateaux with its peat bogs, groughs and hags. Approx 16 miles/26km and 850 metres of ascent, but shorter, easier options are available.
We recommend that you undertake trek training walks with us on two or more consecutive days, wearing the boots, and using kit that you intend to wear and take on your trekking holiday. It is a good idea to start your hill walking training programme at least a couple of months before you are due to go.
The cost is £35 per person per day for walks of up to 13 miles, and £38 per person per day for longer walks. We guarantee that you will be in a small walking group with a friendly, professional guide. To book please see below.
What our customers say about our trek training challenge walks: Just to let you know that I successfully summited Meru and Kilimanjaro. The training with Peak Walking Adventures obviously paid off because although I was lucky enough not to suffer any altitude problems I think I actually enjoyed the climb more than a lot of others because I was reasonably fit. Thanks again and hope to be able to pop up to the Peaks for another session sometime this year. Steve from Kent. February 2010. See more comments on our new customer feedback blog |

If you are engaged in fundraising for a charity challenge trek, we will make a small contribution to your charity in the form of sponsorship.
