  • To be flexible in terms of timing, routes, distance and challenge.
  • To support your tour guide with our local knowledge as they make their plans.
  • To seamlessly work as part of a team delivering a friendly and professional client experience.

Client Experience: Stanage Edge - Austen and Bronte

This classic high-level walk from the Longshaw Estate near Hathersage combines nature, stunning scenery and two classic novels – Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre. Stanage Edge is where actress, Keira Knightley playing Elizabeth Bennett, stood upon a rock ledge with sweeping views and dreamed of Mr Darcy in the 2005 film version of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.  We also pass North Lees Hall, a beautiful stately home visited by Charlotte Bronte in 1845 –  believed to be Thornfield Hall, home to Mr Rochester in Bronte’s classic, Jane Eyre.  Through woodland and pastures the walk passes near Hathersage Church, legendary burial place for Robin Hood’s Little John, before finishing in Hathersage.

  • The walk is approximately 11km /7 miles in length with 250m/820ft of ascent.
  • It’s a linear walk and ideal if you are providing minibus or coach transport.
  • The walk can be converted to a circular walk, shortened or extended.
  • Whilst there are ascents, the overall profile of the walk descends from start to finish enabling walkers to benefit from high views without too much climbing.
