Edale Three Peaks Corporate Challenge - Peak District

This challenge walk is ideal for teams who want to share a challenge together but have mixed experience in the hills.  It’s a shorter version of the famous Edale Skyline Fell Race and an ideal introduction to challenge walks, visiting some of the Peak District’s highest and finest summits – Grindslow Knoll, Kinder Low on Derbyshire’s highest plateau, and Mam Tor.

Description
The Route

Our walk leaves Edale Village and ascends steeply up to Ringing Roger, an extraordinary rock formation typical of the Dark Peak District’s edges.  An easy walk continues along the escarpment’s edge to the summit of Grindsbrook Knoll, before heading towards the Peak District’s highest trig point at Kinder Low (2076ft/633m).  There is plenty to see on our way, including strange-shaped rocky tors with far reaching views of the Edale Valley below. We pick up the famous Pennine Way near Edale Rocks, before crossing over high moorland to the other side of the valley.  Here we follow Rushop Edge – a beautiful grassy ridge with great views back towards Kinder Scout.  Our final summit is Mam Tor, the site of an ancient hill fort, before gradually descending via Edale’s Great Ridge back to our starting point.

Key Features
  • The walk start is next to Edale Station with direct trains from Manchester and Sheffield.
  • With plenty of Escape Routes back to Edale, this route can easily be shortened in bad weather, or if members of the party are struggling.  It’s an ideal choice for new challenge walkers or for teams with mixed experience – there are plenty of choices along the route, so everyone can get enjoyment out of the day.
  • 1 – 8 people: £325 (Set up and 1 guide)
  • 9 – 16: £550 (2 guides)
  • 17 – 24: £800 (3 guides)
  • 25 – 32: £1050 (4 guides)
  • 33 – 40: £1,300 (5 guides)

Optional check point support car and driver, with water and snacks, and transport to the start or finish for participants unable to complete the route: £250 per day.

For all Corporate Challenge Walks we will donate 5% of our fee to the Peak District’s Moors for the Future Partnership >, to support the preservation of the paths and precious moorlands where we walk.

Please Note: 

  • These are guide costs for this walk.
  • We operate a higher client to guide ratio than many companies, based on eight people per guide. This is to ensure peoples’  different walking experience, pace and ability are properly supported throughout the day. Where we are satisfied that all party members share the same experience then we will consider reviewing ratios and costs with you.
  • We will finalise costs with you when you book.

Included

  • Bespoke set up advice on walk suitability, area, accommodation, meeting points, travel arrangements and parking.
  • Full Briefing Information, Kit List and Risk Assessment for your walk.
  • Qualified Mountain Leader(s) or Hill and Moorland Leader(s) with Outdoor First Aid Qualifications, Liability Insurance and DBS checks (where required).
  • Guiding throughout the day with briefing advice and support to ensure your safety.
  • Narrative on local points of interest, wildlife, geology, history and culture.
  • Photography of your day which can be shared with you.
  • The option of a free, return lift from a station or bus stop to the start of your walk to encourage sustainable travel. We can arrange pick up for 3 – 4 individuals in the group if we have spare space in our vehicle and the pick-up point is reasonably close to your walk. Ask us when you book.

  • Accommodation and board, parking or transport costs associated with your walk.
  • Essential walking kit or food

We meet and brief at the main Edale Village Car Park, next to the village hall and public toilets, post code S33 7ZA.  This car park can also accommodate minibuses and coaches.

 

Please Note: 

  • This post code covers a wide area, and so a sat nav might not take you to exactly the right place.
  • Please also be aware that mobile phone signals in the Vale of Edale are poor, therefore it’s recommended that you check maps and that you know the exact location of the car park before you start your journey.
  • The cost of car parking is (currently) £6 – £7 and the ticket machine may only take coins.

There are toilets in the car park where we meet and the Penny Pot Café is opposite the car park, next to the train station. Edale is a small busy village with cafes, pubs, a shop and accommodation. See map here>.
