Description
Snowdonia Guided Walk Weekend
On Saturday, we will aim to ascend the amazing Matterhorn-shaped mountain, Cnicht and then enjoy Sunday in the stunning Carnedds range. Weather permitting, our route each day will approximately be as follows:
Saturday – Cnicht and the Snowdonia Slate Trail
The Route: Our memorable walk begins at the Croesor hamlet car park and follows the South West ridge to the summit at 689m. The path is a gradual climb with very easy scrambling over a few rock steps. From here we follow the Cambrian way and then join the Snowdonia slate trail to explore many significant and interesting slate quarry sites and mine workings before descending back to Croesor. The approximate distance is 6.5 miles / 10.4km with 2007ft/ 612m of ascent.
Sunday – Carnedd Range
The Route: We’ll ascend Pen y Ole Wen from Ogwen Valley before summiting Carnedd Dafydd and Carnedd Llewelyn. We return via Pen Yr Helgi Du. The approximate distance is 9.5 miles / 15km with 3490ft/ 1064m of ascent.
Please note: On both days, to maximise your enjoyment and safety, it’s possible we may have to alter routes according to weather conditions and party ability. Alternative routes will be in the same area.

Walk Difficulty
These Walks are Tough! Here is our walk difficulty guide >
Please Note: Each walk involves paths that are rough and stony in places with some steep sections of loose stones, and some boulder fields to cross. There will be some very easy scrambling involved but avoids the classic scramble routes such as North Ridge of Tryfan and Crib Goch on Snowdon. It can be wet and boggy in other places. You therefore need to be confident to walk at a reasonable pace over that type of terrain. The walk is suitable for people with a good level of fitness, previous mountain experience or experience walking with us in the Peak District, and confidence on steep ground that could be slippery underfoot. Should weather conditions be unsuitable to be up in the mountains, an alternative guided walk will be offered in the local area.

Respect, Protect and Enjoy!
We all want to respect, protect and enjoy the fragile upland environments where we walk, so that they can be enjoyed by generations to come. Following The Countryside Code really helps…
Respect:
- Be considerate to those living in, working in and enjoying the countryside
- Leave gates and property as you find them
- Do not block access to gateways or driveways when parking
- Be nice, say hello, share the space
- Follow local signs and keep to marked paths unless wider access is available
Protect:
- Take your litter home – leave no trace of your visit
- Do not light fires and only have BBQs where signs say you can
- Always keep dogs under control and in sight
- Dog poo – bag it and bin it – any public waste bin will do
- Care for nature – do not cause damage or disturbance
Enjoy:
- Check your route and local conditions
- Plan your adventure – know what to expect and what you can do
- Enjoy your visit, have fun, make a memory
