Description
Kinder Scout Double Fitness Walk
The Route: We follow the Pennine Way national trail out of Edale Valley. Our first ascent is up Crowden Clough, climbing steeply to the edge of the Kinder Scout Plateau. We follow the Plateau’s edge and descend via Grindslow Knoll back to Edale. Our second climb leads us back onto the plateau via Grindsbrook Clough which involves an easy scramble around the rocks and stream bed. There are expansive views over the valley to the Great Ridge and Mam Tor. We then continue to follow the edge path and finally descend to Edale via the rocks of Ringing Roger.

Meeting and Parking
We meet at the main Edale Village Car Park, next to the village hall and public toilets, post code S33 7ZA.
Please note:
- This post code covers a wide area, and so a sat nav might not take you to exactly the right place.
- Please also be aware that mobile phone signals in the Vale of Edale are poor, therefore it’s recommended that you check maps and that you know the exact location of the car park before you start your journey.
- The cost of car parking is (currently) £7 – £8 and the ticket machine may only take coins.
Please see a Google Map showing the location of the car park and adjacent Edale Railway Station here>.
Coming by Bus or Train?
We’re keen to support public transport use and reduce emissions. If you’re arriving at Edale Station by Train, the car park where we meet is on the opposite site of the road to the train station. Or if you are arriving by train or bus at another location reasonably nearby, we’ll give you a free lift. Just ask us when you book.
Facilities
There are toilets in the car park where we meet and the Penny Pot Café is opposite the car park, next to the train station. Edale is a small busy village with cafes, pubs, a shop and accommodation. See map here>.

Respect, Protect and Enjoy!
We all want to respect, protect and enjoy the fragile upland environments where we walk, so that they can be enjoyed by generations to come. Following The Countryside Code really helps…
Respect:
- Be considerate to those living in, working in and enjoying the countryside
- Leave gates and property as you find them
- Do not block access to gateways or driveways when parking
- Be nice, say hello, share the space
- Follow local signs and keep to marked paths unless wider access is available
Protect:
- Take your litter home – leave no trace of your visit
- Do not light fires and only have BBQs where signs say you can
- Always keep dogs under control and in sight
- Dog poo – bag it and bin it – any public waste bin will do
- Care for nature – do not cause damage or disturbance
Enjoy:
- Check your route and local conditions
- Plan your adventure – know what to expect and what you can do
- Enjoy your visit, have fun, make a memory
